Qingyang's embroidered sachets are connected with local Dragon Boat Festival customs and the giving of small handmade objects. The national record describes their popularity during the Ming and Qing periods, while explicitly noting that the earliest origin is uncertain. The practice entered the first national list in 2006. Ancient healing legends are not evidence of a modern product's medical effect.

Fabric, embroidery and three-dimensional construction meet in a very small space. A motif must work with the shape of the pouch rather than merely sit on top of it. Local sachets include several different methods and forms.
