The story
before the object.
Yingshan wrapped-thread flowers belong to Hubei's regional craft heritage. A provincial culture report traces modern recovery work to field research in 2003 and renewed apprenticeship in 2008; the practice entered the provincial list in 2011. The same report attributes an earlier Ming-era origin story to a local genealogy, which should be read as a reported tradition rather than independently established dating.
Historical source (Chinese) ↗What to look for
Coloured thread is wound around shaped cores made with materials such as fine copper wire and card. The direction and density of the wrapping create the sheen. Unlike ronghua, the characteristic surface is made of orderly wrapped strands.
The images interpret the material and mood. They are not documentation of a particular maker’s work or a technical reconstruction.

A place in your life
Time, wound into a petal
A petal asks you to return to the same small gesture. With each turn, an outline gains substance. The finished flower can carry the time you chose to spend on it: a quiet afternoon, a conversation at the table, or a gift made slowly for one person.
A contemporary invitation from the studioFrom looking to making
Draw it, wrap it, give it
Draw one petal, work with a prepared core, and practise even wrapping in a single colour. Assemble a simple stem after the petal holds its shape. Keep complex colour transitions for a later lesson.
A finished piece to keep
Floral brooches, decorative stems and small ornaments.
An experience to develop
A shaped core and a single-petal exercise before assembling a whole flower. Winding neatly takes patience.
Through an illustrator’s eyes
Turning original drawings into core shapes and teaching each colour change.
These are development ideas. Products, kits and video classes are not currently offered for purchase.
